Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), also known as Polyvidone or Povidone, is a polymer compound generated by the polymerization of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is a water-soluble white resinous solid formed by the homopolymerization of N-vinylpyrrolidone. Its molecular formula is (C6H9NO)x. According to the different molecular weights, there are K15, K30, K60, K90 and other types. PVP is an important fine chemical product with excellent performance and high added value. Its molecules contain a lactam group with a large polarity and have the ability to be polar. It is soluble in water and in polar organic solvents such as alcohols, carboxylic acids, alcohol amines, and halogenated hydrocarbons. The chemical properties of PVP solids and their aqueous solutions are very stable.
